Giuseppe Castiglione, born in Milan, arrived in China as a missionary in 1715. His remarkable painting skills earned him a position as court painter to the Qing dynasty. Known in China as Lang Shining, he served Emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong for 51 years. Blending Western and Chinese styles, he excelled in portraits, horses, dogs, and birds-and-flowers. This online exhibition features works from the National Palace Museum Collection in Taipei, Taiwan, except his AI-generated portrait.
